Sulfide-based solid electrolytes
Sulfide-based solid electrolytes have the best-known balance of conductivity (i.e., the ability to move ions quickly) and processability (i.e., the ability to be produced defect-free on industry standard roll-to-roll battery manufacturing equipment) out of all solid electrolyte classes. We develop our materials for stability and conductivity within each layer of the cell while also optimizing for areas such as cost and compatibility with conventional lithium-ion processing.
Working with
Solid Power has extensive partnerships with both BMW and Ford to jointly develop all-solid-state batteries. In October 2021, Solid Power announced a partnership with SK Innovation to produce Solid Power’s automotive-scale all-solid-state battery cells utilizing Solid Power’s sulfide-based solid electrolyte, proprietary cell designs and production processes. The company was initially funded by prominent investors including Hyundai, Volta Energy Technologies, Umicore, Sanoh, A123 Systems and Solvay.
